Learn both theoretical foundations in storage performance as well as specific monitoring techniques using IBM Tivoli Storage Productivity Center (TPC). The course discusses essential performance characteristics of cached disk subsystems, the essential performance metrics, and enough theory to help understand why storage products perform as they do. Moreover, the course covers the practical use of TPC to monitor performance, to spot performance issues, and to investigate the causes. Specific TPC reports and interpretation of the reports are covered, as well as application of the data to long term capacity planning. This course was created and will be taught by Brian J Smith, Ph.D. has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of IO Subsystem and Computer System Performance. He has co-authored a textbook titled Computer Principles of Modeling and Simulation. He has extensive experience in the fields of IO Benchmarking, computer performance evaluation, capacity planning,and performance analysis of both hardware and software. A long-time contributor to CMG, Dr. Smith has authored several papers on IO and system performance, performance management, and holds IBM patents in the fields of Storage Management and Data Management. Dr. Smith currently works in the Americas ATS (Advanced Technical Support) as a Certified IT Specialist in Storage, dealing primarily with performance issues relating to storage products, and use of TPC for performance management and capacity planning.
