NOTE: THIS IS AN INSTRUCTOR-LED ONLINE COURSE. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THIS COURSE. This 5-day instructor-led course introduces business analysts to the IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules Business Rule Management System (BRMS). It teaches students the concepts and skills necessary to capture, author, validate, and manage business rules using IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules BRMS V7.1. Through instructor-led presentations, product demonstrations, and hands-on lab exercises, students learn the core features of JRules BRMS. The course focuses on the iterative nature of working collaboratively with business policy experts and development teams on business rule projects. Students receive intensive training in modeling business rule vocabulary, rule discovery, and rule authoring. A realistic case study is used throughout the course to demonstrate the principles and best practices for discovering, analyzing, and authoring business rules. The course begins with an overview of JRules BRMS and the modeling concepts that are related to business rule applications. Students use Unified Modeling Notation (UML) to document use cases and draw class diagrams, and work with actual business models, use cases, and business policies during the rule discovery and analysis labs. After learning how to transform business policy into rules, students get an in-depth look at rule authoring with rules based on an actual business model. The exercises prepare them for some of the questions and issues that can arise when users author rules for complex business decisions and models. Students also closely examine the business case study and its underlying business object model (BOM) to understand how the BOM is reflected in the rules. The rule authoring exercises build on each other, and demonstrate the relationship between the BOM and the vocabulary that is available in the rule editors. Hands-on exercises with Decision Validation Services enable students to run tests and simulations. Students become familiar with the Rule Team Server management features, such as baselines, project analysis, and permission management for sharing rules between multiple users. They also learn how to identify governance issues and use JRules BRMS features to support rule governance.
